About Sam Rowe
I have earned my living providing communications counsel for over 35 years. During my career I have been fortunate to work with a broad spread of companies, brands and organisations - from global, blue-chip corporations through to biotech start-ups, think tanks, NGOs and public institutions. I have held director positions in several established public relations networks including Euro-RSCG, Hill and Knowlton and Weber Shandwick.
The first 15 years of my career were spent in the UK. I learned my trade in brand PR in London focusing on messaging, positioning and media relations. Subsequently, I then honed my skills in corporate communications and specialised in strategy development, issue management and stakeholder engagement.
In 1997 I moved to Brussels where I managed pan-European communications programmes for a range of corporations in sectors including food and drink, energy, industrials and healthcare. I also built teams to handle public policy communications for a number of EU Directorates General.
For the past decade I have run my own consultancy providing communications advice and support to private companies, public institutions and trade associations. I specialise in communicating in an EU policy environment and using communications strategies to advance policy objectives.
I also run communications training. I have taught communications and lobbying as a part of the MBA course at United Business Institutes, part of the University of Kent, UK and run communications training courses for the European Commission’s DG HR. I am an experienced media trainer and have coached CEOs, NGOs and European Commission Director Generals and spokespeople in delivering messages and handling challenging questioning and situations.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and a former president of the Belgian chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). I hold a BA (Hons) in Modern History and Politics from the University of London.
